In career coaching I concentrate on big-picture strategies, values clarification, success criteria, and task orientation. The main question to be answered is "What is the best type of career for me, that will make me feel confident in myself, give me a sense of accomplishment, fulfill my criteria for success and help me achieve my work and career goals?"
We start with an exploration of personal and professional values. The process and steps are similar to the other types of coaching, with a specific focus on career objectives.
Executive coaching is about setting and reaching professional goals. During the process, we focus on the workplace. Both long-term and short-term goals can be clarified and met through this process. Examples of long-term issues might be ascension planning or a five year professional plan. Examples of short-term issues might be optimizing an up-coming employee evaluation, resolving a personal conflict with someone at work, learning specific communication skills to maximize effectiveness as a manager, or meeting specific requirements for internal promotion.
